About Us

Who Is The Association for The City of La Jolla?

Our initiative aims to create The City of La Jolla and close the budgetary gap for the City of San Diego. We have a clear vision and mission inspired by the successful efforts of other communities that have created cities. We aim to provide an overview of achieving cityhood and introduce options for the community to get involved. Join our team as we work towards creating The City of La Jolla

What Our Community is Addressing

A self-governed La Jolla can provide benefits for local residents and the greater San Diego community.

Opportunity

The challenge facing The City of San Diego is the current budget shortfall of $5.1B, which has reached a tipping point in the city’s ability to address the diverse needs of different neighborhoods. A “one size fits all” approach no longer effectively delivers needed services from infrastructure to emergency response. Our proposal is to help The City of San Diego reduce its infrastructure expenditures by creating The City of La Jolla, so we can better manage community assets to effectively serve La Jolla and the greater San Diego community.

By governing ourselves, we can better serve the greater San Diego area

La Jolla is a regional destination and should be maintained and serviced to the highest level so all people can enjoy this unique, natural and cultural asset of San Diego County.

Our Leadership Team

The founding Board Members for The City of La Jolla have been meeting since September 2021. They are community leaders who are passionate about creating The City of La Jolla, while keeping the best interests of the City of San Diego ever present in their plans. In August 2022, The Association for The City of La Jolla incorporated as a 501(c)(6) non-profit, and the team continues to work toward achieving optimum results for the entire San Diego area.
