A Better San Diego For All, Through a Self-Governed La Jolla
We are taking the next steps toward cityhood. The process is active, lawful, and moving forward..
WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW
We're closer than you think.
In May 2025, the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO), the agency that coordinates the establishment of new cities in California, advanced our application, confirming that La Jolla voters submitted well beyond the required 25% petition threshold. The process is active, lawful, and moving forward with real momentum.
Right now we are in the Financial Review phase: funding and completing the Comprehensive Fiscal Analysis required by state law. It is the final major step before the LAFCO decision that brings the City of La Jolla within reach.

is a City
Why La Jolla. Why Now.
Local decisions deserve local accountability.
La Jolla generates significant revenue for the City of San Diego while facing chronic underinvestment in infrastructure, services, and local representation. A self-governed City of La Jolla is a win for La Jolla and a stronger future for the broader San Diego region.
